There's something about November that makes a warm drink feel a little more special.
Maybe it's the cooler mornings, the shorter days, or the fact that the holiday season is officially knocking on our doors. Whatever the reason, sometimes all you need is a cozy blanket, a comfortable chair, and something delicious to sip.
Enter the Maple Brown Sugar Chai Latte.
With fragrant chai spices, creamy milk, rich maple syrup, and a hint of brown sugar, this homemade latte tastes like something you'd order from your favorite coffee shop—without having to change out of your pajamas.
And the best part? It's surprisingly easy to make.
Ingredients
Servings: 2
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 10 minutes
Total time: 15 minutes
- 2 chai tea bags
- 1 cup water
- 1½ cups milk (whole, oat, or your favorite alternative)
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar, packed
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- Optional: whipped cream, cinnamon sticks, or a sprinkle of nutmeg
Instructions
1. Brew the chai.
Bring 1 cup of water to a gentle boil. Remove from heat, add the chai tea bags, and steep for 5–7 minutes, or according to the package directions. Remove the tea bags without squeezing them.
2. Make the maple brown sugar milk.
In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the milk, maple syrup, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Stir gently until the sugar dissolves and the milk is hot and steaming. Avoid boiling.
3. Froth until creamy.
Use a handheld milk frother to create a light, creamy foam. No frother? Whisk vigorously for 30–60 seconds, or simply leave the milk unfrothed. It'll still taste delicious.
4. Assemble your lattes.
Divide the brewed chai between two mugs. Slowly pour the warm maple brown sugar milk over the tea, spooning any foam on top.
5. Add the finishing touches.
Dust with a little extra cinnamon, add a cinnamon stick, or top with whipped cream for an extra-indulgent treat.
Find a cozy spot, take a sip, and enjoy!
Make it your own
One of the best things about homemade chai is how easily you can customize it.
- Make it dairy-free: Oat milk is especially delicious with chai and creates a naturally creamy texture.
- Prefer it less sweet? Start with half the maple syrup and brown sugar, then adjust to taste.
- Love extra spice? Add a tiny pinch of ground ginger, cardamom, or cloves.
- Want a dirty chai? Add a shot of espresso for a little extra caffeine.
- Make it iced: Let the brewed tea and sweetened milk cool, then pour over ice.
A little something worth slowing down for
Between Thanksgiving preparations, holiday shopping, and the endless list of things to get done before the end of the year, November has a way of moving a little too quickly.
Consider this your reminder that not every moment needs to be productive.
Sometimes the best thing you can do is make yourself something warm, sit down for a few minutes, and enjoy it while it's still hot.
And if that means ignoring the laundry for another fifteen minutes? We won't tell.
Cheers to cozy mornings and the little moments that make this season special!
